Co-founder · Engineering & Research
Rafael Reis
Rafael brings technical invention, engineering judgement and research to Wyrd’s founding team. His work begins with the problem itself: understanding the constraints, questioning the existing approach and exploring whether a different mechanism could make something useful possible.
Through Wyrd Labs, he helps shape the company’s technological direction alongside Alec. His contribution includes finding problems, originating new systems and examining how an idea could be built. That means considering its mechanisms, dependencies, resource requirements and development sequence, then deciding what needs to be investigated or tested before the team can rely on it.
Across the ecosystem, this work connects research to the foundations that WyrdWork, ARGOS, Biota and Corpus can build upon. A useful discovery should become understandable, maintainable technology, with clear interfaces and evidence of its behaviour. Each product and operating environment then brings its own integration and qualification requirements.
Rafael and Alec develop the relationship between the wider architecture and the technical possibilities within it. Alec’s responsibility for coherence across the company meets Rafael’s scrutiny of mechanisms, feasibility and implementation. Research can change the architecture; architectural questions can give research a new direction. AI expands what the team can investigate and construct, while people remain responsible for examining what it produces.
Working with Maxime and Cal, Rafael also helps connect engineering decisions to institutional needs, product usefulness and delivery commitments. His underlying ambition is technology that leaves people with greater capability of their own: the knowledge and means to understand, maintain and improve the systems they use.
Co-founder · Strategic Relationships
Maxime Binard
Maxime connects Wyrd’s capabilities with the people and institutions through which they can become useful. His work brings relationship development, institutional understanding and practical follow-through into the founding team.
A promising conversation needs a path towards a defined undertaking. Maxime helps establish what an organisation needs, who should participate, what each party can contribute and which responsibilities must be agreed. Resources, access, expectations and the evidence required to move forward all belong within that understanding. A relationship should become stronger as the work becomes more concrete.
Across Wyrd, this perspective helps connect shared technology to different institutional circumstances. The same underlying capability may serve several environments, but each organisation has its own priorities, constraints and ways of working. Maxime helps bring those differences into the discussion early enough to shape the project itself.
His contribution complements Alec’s architectural direction and Rafael’s technological judgement. Understanding how the systems fit together is accompanied by understanding how people and organisations can work together around them. Alongside Cal, he helps connect strategic relationships, product opportunities and commercial judgement to a scope the team can pursue responsibly.
His management studies at ESCP and experience in business operations contribute to this attention to organisations and the people within them. At Wyrd, the purpose is to develop cooperation that produces lasting capability, with clear commitments and a practical understanding of what each participant needs to succeed.
Co-founder · Products & Business Development
Cal Poppink
Cal brings entrepreneurship, product-building experience and business development to Wyrd’s founding team. His work connects what the company can create with the people who need it, the reasons they would adopt it and the conditions under which it can remain useful.
His background includes published mobile applications and work with Falas, an AI interview-practice platform. This gives him experience with the relationship between a product idea, its implementation and the experience of the person using it. Moving from a capability to a useful product requires attention to how it is explained, accessed, supported and improved. His published applications are listed under Cal Poppink’s Apple developer account.
Within Wyrd, his business-development responsibility centres on understanding customer problems, qualifying opportunities, developing commercial relationships and helping turn discussions into clearly scoped work. He brings those conversations back into product and delivery decisions, so the company’s direction can respond to what people actually need.
Cal complements Alec’s work on the coherence of the ecosystem and Rafael’s development of its technical foundations with a perspective grounded in product adoption and commercial usefulness. Working alongside Maxime, he helps connect relationships and institutional opportunities to a proposition people can understand and a commitment Wyrd can deliver.
That contribution extends across the ecosystem. Institutional software, personal intelligence and physical-system programmes have different users, purchasing decisions and support requirements. Cal helps keep those differences visible as the shared technology develops, connecting ambition to customer value and sustainable commercial activity.
Different perspectives. Shared responsibility.
Wyrd’s founding team connects company direction, systems architecture, technical invention, institutional relationships and commercial development. Alec works on the coherence of the whole. Rafael develops its technological possibilities and engineering foundations. Maxime builds the relationships and agreements through which cooperation becomes practical. Cal connects products and capabilities to customer needs and commercial opportunity.
These responsibilities inform one another. A customer’s problem can expose a missing capability. An engineering discovery can change a product’s direction. A new relationship can create an opportunity for research. Each person contributes ideas and judgement beyond a single function. The work becomes stronger when those perspectives remain connected to the same purpose, commitments and observed results.
