WHAT A USEFUL MEMORY MUST KEEP
Memory gives continuity to work across time. A retrieved document can tell us what a procedure says. A useful operational memory also needs to explain which version applied, who could use it, what the situation looked like, what people believed and what followed from their decisions.
OMNIS’s intended knowledge and memory role connects those relationships. The record should help a person or model reconstruct the relevant context while keeping the source, date, uncertainty and permitted purpose available for inspection.
What a permitted source or connected system reported, when it was reported and under which measurement or collection conditions.
What was inferred from that material, including uncertainty, assumptions, conflicting accounts and the evidence used.
Which purpose, role, mandate or approval applied to the work, with the limits relevant to that decision.
What was proposed, selected, attempted, refused or completed through a connected endpoint.
What the environment reported afterward and whether the observed result matched the intended outcome.
What was corrected or reconsidered, why it changed and which earlier conclusion or record it affects.
MEMORY WITH BOUNDARIES
A common architecture serves distinct people, institutions and deployments. Their memories retain their own ownership, identity and information boundaries. Retrieval must account for the requester, the task and the access rules that apply to the source. An institution’s operational context also needs to remain distinct from a person’s private life.
Sources change. Procedures are replaced, observations grow stale and interpretations are corrected. A dependable knowledge plane needs to represent those changes and expose what is missing. Retention schedules, correction processes and deletion rules determine which material remains available and for how long.
Relevant results can return through approved structured updates. Retaining an event for review, using it as context for a later task and admitting it to model training are separate decisions. A learning programme must identify the material it may use and evaluate any resulting model change before that change enters its intended operation.
ONE QUESTION, WITH ITS HISTORY
An employee asks why a delivery changed. The useful answer connects the correct agreement, its current version, the shipment update, the responsible team and any recorded response. It preserves the difference between the supplier’s estimate and an observed arrival. If the cause remains uncertain, that uncertainty belongs in the answer.
After the institution chooses a response, the attempted work and eventual result can become part of the same history. The next question can then begin with what was learned, within the access and retention rules of that deployment. This is the continuity OMNIS is being developed to support inside WUI.
AN OPERATING EXAMPLE
A local employee model asks OMNIS for the applicable procedure. OMNIS retrieves permitted sources and their current context. Work results can return as approved structured events, preserving a useful institutional record.
Illustrative workflow. Integration and qualification required.OMNIS supplies WUI’s knowledge and memory role. It connects permitted information, history, experience, records and relevant live signals for the person, institution, infrastructure or operating environment being served. Master Brain supplies fast retrieval inside OMNIS, while smaller models can help find material and process eligible updates. Provenance, access, uncertainty and retention remain part of the knowledge plane.
OMNIS must represent what is missing, uncertain, stale or outside a requester’s authority. Structured employee work signals are scoped information, not a licence to capture private conversations.
